A vocal approach to improvisation

Writer: Laura HarrisonLaura Harrison

I'm still trying to figure out a title :) Ideas?

I am in the process of publishing a book showing my approach to improvisation using transcriptions of the jazz masters as a guide. There are going to be a bunch of transcriptions; however, many will be of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan because I wrote my doctoral dissertation on them.

The dissertation was the study of the differing improvisational styles between Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. The comparison was based on the fact that Ella grew up in the Swing Era and learned improvisation along the way, whereas Sarah grew up in the Bebop Era and was immersed in the style.

Like the other posts, this will assist me in sharing way more often my updates on my projects. This is the last post of that kind and I just realized I'm doing four books! Wow!

They are already written in my head, I just have to sit down and write them down. :)

When I do publish any of these books, I hope you will tell 100 of your closest friends (especially school teachers!).
